Things are looking good for the local economy
Söderhamn is an old industrial district, but few places have undergone such dramatic structural changes. Where large companies, mainly in the forestry industry, once dominated the local economy, small and medium-sized businesses now play an increasingly important role, bringing with them greater economic diversity. Söderhamn´s growth figures are the best in the county.
Government agencies are another new feature of the local economy. These include the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) and the Premium Pension Authority (PPM).
Forestry companies and related manufacturers, including
StoraEnso, Vallviks Bruk, Arizona Chemical, Eco Log, Söderhamn Eriksson, still play a major part in the local economy.
Faxepark and Flygstaden are two important future-oriented developments.
