Population
The municipality of Söderhamnhas just over 26,000 inhabitants, half of whom live in the city of Söderhamn. As a result of structural changes, primarily in the forestry industry, the population has declined in recent years.
Relocations in 2007 yielded a net population increase of 32, but the total population nevertheless fell as a result of the low birth rate.
The average age in Söderhamn is 43.5 years for men (national average 39.8) and 46.1 years for women (42.1).
The municipality is home to a large number of immigrants. The majority are from the neighbouring countries of Norway and Finland , but the population also includes immigrants from countries such as Iraq, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
